Northern Rail is a train operating company that provides passenger train line services across the Northern counties.

Northern Rail Route

  • Northern Rail provides local and commuter services to the North of England with services concentrated at train stations in Humberside, the North East, the North West and Yorkshire.
  • Northern Rail's main routes run local services from the main hubs of Manchester, Liverpool, York, Blackpool, and Leeds.
  • Northern Rail also operate longer distance passenger services across the Northern counties, serving Staffordshire, Cheshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Durham, and Cumberland rail stations. These include Northern Rail links to the cities of Stoke-on-Trent, Chester, Grimsby, Nottingham, Sunderland, and Carlisle.

Northern Rail Destinations

Northern Rail call at over 500 stations accounting for over 20% of the national rail network. Northern Rail provides direct entry into 3 of England's finest National parks as well as the Lake District, these are: The Peak District, The Yorkshire Dales, and the North Yorkshire Moors.

Northern Rail has been running under the current franchise since 2004, previously the Northern Rail franchise was operated by Arriva.
