Merseyrail is the brand name for the transport system that runs electrical urban services either side of the Mersey River, around Liverpool & Merseyside.
About Merseyrail
Merseyrail is a unique contract between operator Merseyrail Electrics Ltd and Merseytravel, the Merseyside passenger transport executive.
Merseyrail Electric Ltd is a 50:50 joint partnership between Serco and NedRailways.
Merseyrail Route
- Merseyrail provides train line services along the former Northern line and Wirral line routes.
- Merseyrail runs services in and out of a total of 67 stations, 66 of which are commanded by Merseyrail, including 4 Underground city centre stations.
- The Merseyrail network calls at stations including: Southport, Liverpool Lime Street, Ormskirk, Ellesmere Port, New Brighton, Preston, Chester, West Kirby and Hunts Cross rail station.
- Merseyrail also run services to Liverpool South Parkway train station providing airport connections to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Merseyside Region
The routes operated by Merseyrail are some of the most intensively used in the country carrying over 100,000 passengers a week and running around 800 trains a day. Underground Merseyrail services have been operating since 1886 along the Mersey Railway tunnel. Taking a train with Merseyrail is one of the quickest and greenest ways to travel around the liverpool and merseyside region.
