E-Tickets (Smartest Option)

We are now offering E-tickets where available on the UK Rail network!

If E-Tickets are available for your journey it will appear as one of your Ticket delivery method during the booking process.

What does an E-Ticket look like?

An E-Ticket contains a unique ticket verification (QR code) like the one below. It also contains your journey information such as departure and destination station, date and seat reservation where applicable.

How does E-tickets work?

  1. Choose ‘E-Ticket’ as your Ticket Delivery method.
  2. Purchase your ticket(s).
  3. We will email your confirmation straight away.
  4. Download the PDF to your smartphone AND / OR print at home as a backup.
  5. Ensure that you have battery on your smartphone on the day of travel.
  6. Scan your E-tickets at the barrier for entry onto the platform or during ticket inspection on board the train.

What are the benefits of choosing E-Tickets?

  • Convenience - Get your tickets right away by downloading onto your smartphone (You may want to do this in advance in case there’s no reception in the station)
  • Skip the queues – no more queueing at the self-service ticket machines or ticket office (especially during peak hours).
  • Print* at your convenience – if you need a backup copy (there’s no limit as to how many times you can print your tickets at home)
  • You can forward them to the other passengers that are booked on the same journey as you so they can download or print their own tickets at their convenience
*Please note that E-Tickets cannot be printed at the self-service ticket machines or ticket desk at the station.

How to use your E-Tickets?

iOS users – Add tickets to your Apple wallet
Upon a successful booking, you will receive 2 emails, one of which enables you to add your tickets to your Apple Wallet.

Android users – Download and save into your phone
There may be more than one E-Ticket within the attachment (you booked a return trip / split tickets) so make sure you download all the tickets required for your journey.
  • If the journey is booked for more than 1 passenger, then the confirmation email will show downloadable links for each passenger, i.e. Passenger 1, Passenger 2….
  • At the station, present your E-Ticket to be scanned at the barriers. If you encounter a barrier without a scanner, then just show your E-Ticket to a member of staff.
  • If you are asked to show your tickets on board the train, then show your E-Tickets on your phone or supply your printed copy.
