Like it or not, between 29th August and 9th September 2012the second phase of the greatest show on earth will be taking place in London! Whether you can't wait to watch the athletes battle it out for the ultimate sporting glory or you just want to get as far away as possible, it's the ideal opportunity to take the train!

 

Organising your travel

Whatever your're doing, it's vital to plan ahead. You'll not only have peace of mind, it'll also work out a lot cheaper too as the lowest fares are sold in limited numbers and sell on a first come first served basis. With all the events in the UK this summer, the rail network will busier than ever. Book your train tickets now to avoid disappointment.

 

Get Away

  • If it's just not your thing, take the train away for some peace and quiet.
  • Many attractions and beautiful scenery are within a stone's throw of hundreds of stations so you're spoilt for choice with places to go.
  • Escape the UK altogether and hop aboard a train bound for the continent. Don't forget you can now book rail travel from any major UK station to any Eurostar destination and beyond including travel to any French, Dutch or Belgian station.

 

Join the Fun:

  • Olympic Stadium Want to watch history in the making? Most venues only have limited parking facilities so beat congestion and overcrowded roads by take the train for a hassle free trip.
  • Underground travel is free in Zones 1-9 of the London Underground network for Olympic ticket holders.
  • Whilst most events take place in and around London, there will also be sailing events in Weymouth in Dorset and at Brands Hatch near Sevenoaks in Kent.

 

Free Events:

If you haven't managed to get the tickets you wanted, don't despair, you can still watch once of the free events or head to one of the torch relay events

  • The Marathon takes place in the Mall on 9th September
  • Whilst the start and end of the road take place within the Brands Hatch race circuit, spectators can watch the portions that take place along public roads for free.
  • Between 24th & 27th August as part of the torch relay, flames will be lit in each of the nations' capital cities London, Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff. There will also be flame celebration events in towns & cities across the country over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

 

Travel advice

Remember to allow plenty of time to get to your destination as journey may take longer than normal and spectators will be subject to security checks at the venues.

By Tube: Stratford is the nearest underground station to the events in East London.

By Rail: Over 100 extra rail services are being put every day on to ensure that everything runs smoothly and to plan. During the busy period some train companies will be putting cycle restrictions will in place. If you're planning to take your bike on the train, check if your route is affected here
