What is it?

In November 2011 the New Deal railcard was renamed the Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card

The Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount card is part of a scheme set up by the government to help unemployed people obtain employment. You may be eligible if you are claiming:

Jobseekers Allowance AND are aged 18-24 and have been unemployed for 6-9 months
OR
Jobseekers Allowance AND are 25 or over and have been unemployed for 6-12 months
OR
Incapacity Benefit, Employment & Support Allowance or Income Support AND are actively engaged with an advisor in returning to employment

 

More Information

A Jobcentre Plus travel Discount card is free and lasts up to three months. The card allows the bearer to get the following standard class tickets at discounted rates:
  • 50% Off Anytime Day and Off-Peak Day tickets (including Off-Peak Day Travelcards for travel starting outside London Zones 1-9). Also Weekly, Monthly and longer period Season Tickets and Travelcards (up to a maximum of 3 months)
  • 50% off Oyster pay as you go (PAYG) fares in London Zones 1-6

Reduced rate tickets booked with the Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card cannot be used to travel in first class and are not valid for travel on Southeastern High Speed rail services.
