GNER has now been taken over by the National Express East Coast franchise.
Until November 2007 GNER operated fast, frequent passenger rail services on the flagship East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross, the East Midlands, Yorkshire, the North East of England and Scotland, carrying more than 17.4 million passengers a year.
As of November 2007 National Express East Coast are the new operator of the Inter City East Coast franchise previously operated by GNER. As a new franchise holder National Express East Coast are delighted to have been chosen to run the UK's premier intercity train service which links the capital cities of England and Scotland and many other regional and historic cities in between.
National Express East Coast are committed to making train travel simpler for everyone and with planned improvements to the network during 2008 those travelling with National Express East Coast may have already noticed changes onboard and at stations and for those of you new to National Express East Coast youre in for a pleasant surprise.
GNER started in 1996 and carried 40% more passengers and 23% more trains (124 services every weekday, including 90 award-winning restaurant services). GNER consistently achieved the highest passenger satisfaction scores in the industry which National Express East Coast plan to continue with their development plans.
