Moutiers lies in the East of France in the French Alps, it is the gateway into Les Trois Valley ski area. Moutiers is a popular ski resort, and an important TGV train station from Paris. You can reach Moutiers on the train from London St Pancras station in just over 7 hours in peak ski season (December – April) and in 9 hours 45 minutes out of the ski season, via the Eurostar to Paris, and TGV from there. Moutiers lies in the famous valley of Tarentaise, a commune of the Savoie department, and was historically know as Tarentaise. Moutiers is also a popular summer destination, especially for those interested in water sports; canoeing and fishing in the mountain lakes and torrents are particular favourite in the region.
Moutiers is a pretty town with a strong cultural heritage; those seeking a break from the various sports on offer should visit the Saint Pierre cathedral, and sample the local Beaufort cheese, the greatest gruyere around with a class of Savoie wine in one of the many quaint bistros and cafes.
Moutiers is the first stop on the train to other popular ski resorts including Bourg St Maurice and la Plagne. Bourg St Maurice, or Bourg is one of the largest towns in the region, renowned for watersports, and the popular summer glacier at Tignes. La Plagne is the ski resort for the village of Aime, Aime la Plagne is the TGV train station that serves the town and resort. Both train stations are approximately half an hour journey time from Moutiers.
